Designers get on the Ball with creative window displays
Merchants in the Hayes Valley and Fillmore Street neighborhoods in San Francisco designed special windows in celebration of the SF Symphony’s Black & White Ball at the War Memorial Performing Arts complex Saturday, May 22. The challenge was to come up with the best-looking window display–in black and white, naturally. The entries are fun and unusual – including an assortment of sake bottles at True Sake (560 Hayes St.) and dancing couples at Invision Optometry (1907 Fillmore). How to keep your flowers fresh
Florists and Floral Designers understand the great importance of cleaning and processing their fresh flowers. The life of a flower is dependent on the variety, but even the most delicate bloom will benefit from a little tender loving care and regular maintenance in order to keep flowers fresh looking for as long as possible. Not only does it add value to their flowers, but it also makes a stronger impression on whoever receives or views them.
Getting Flowers in Water Immediately Makes A Difference!
As soon as fresh flowers are cut, it is vital to give them water. Fresh stems inner fibers are still moist and open to let water flow into the rest of the parts of the flower. These passages dry up quickly without moisture, so providing the water needs to be done quickly in order to preserve the life of the flower.
Keep It Cool
Temperature also makes a difference in keeping flowers lasting longer. By placing flowers that are in a water filled container, such as a vase, in a cool shaded area the water evaporation is slowed down, and keeps the flowers from being dried out. Window Display
This months window and door at vbkirk flowers and events was designed in part by resident SF designer and artist Kevin A Colangelo. Kevin is a regular design consultant has been working seasonally at vbkirk prior to the opening of the space at 227 Fell. He has contributed mainly to the layout of the space, lighting, shelving and storage, painting and other technical issues. Kevin works full time as staging designer for the resale of homes. He has helped stage over 200 properties mostly in the high-end luxury market. Kevin also brings event production and floral assistance to vbkirk. The concept of this month’s window/door is based on the Black and White Ball for the SF symphony. More of Kevin’s work will be featured in upcoming posts.
